Revenue is the entire amount of money that a business takes in. However, revenue is not pure profit since businesses have many expenses. For example, overhead expenses, which are costs like rent, electricity, and cleaning, are paid for out of a business’s revenue. Additionally, businesses must take into account depreciation, or the decrease in the value of property over time. When expenses, depreciation, and taxes are subtracted from a business’s revenue, the remaining money is the net income, which is the business’s actual profit.
